We have been learning about place value and hundreds charts. Students have been working on building numbers using base ten blocks. They've also been practicing counting up to 200. Students have been given "broken" hundreds boards and are expected to fill in the missing numbers based on what they have. We've also talked about patterns in hundreds boards. We've also practiced different ways of skip counting. Students are asked to write the number in standard form, expanded form, draw it with base ten blocks, and write out the word form of the number.
EX: 111 (standard) 100+10+1 (expanded) one hundred and eleven (word form)
<--- Base ten form
This month we are learning about story problems. We have been working on one and two step addition and subtraction problems. Students need to be able to identify what the problem is asking and what operation they need to do in order to solve for the answer. Students should be able to write an equation that matches the story problem as well as give an answer with a label. For many assessments students will need to be able to write about 3 sentences explaining how they found their answer and the strategy that they used.
